School, Policy Center to assist Philly in anti-tobacco/anti-obesity efforts The City of Philadelphia is turning to Annenberg to assist with anti-tobacco and anti-obesity efforts. Philadelphia has received a $25.5 million award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for this effort. U. of Kentucky HealthComm Conference dedicated to memory of Prof. Martin Fishbein This year’s Kentucky Conference on Health Communication (April 22 – 24 in Lexington, Kentucky), hosted by the University of Kentucky is dedicated to the memory of Annenberg’s Prof. Marty Fishbein, who died suddenly last November. Prof. Krippendorff lectures in Turkey Klaus Krippendorff, Ph.D., The Gregory Bateson Term Professor for Cybernetics, Language and Culture, was invited to speak at the occasion of the 30th anniversary of founding the Department of Design at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. On March 8, he spoke about “Human-centered Design: Its epistemology, principles and key concepts.” On March 10, he gave a public lecture to a multi-disciplinary audience on “What design can teach the social sciences; Constructive versus naturalized accounts of being human.” He was surprised to learn that the University of Pennsylvania was instrumental in founding this university and its current president is a graduate of Penn. On March 12, the Istanbul Technical University distracted Prof. Krippendorff from sightseeing and invited him to give a public lecture on “Human-centered design.” This, apparently for the first time, brought representatives from three universities in Istanbul together, which made for an interesting dialogue and created possibilities for cooperation.
