Michael X. Delli Carpini recommended for reappointment as Annenberg School Dean Michael X. Delli Carpini, Ph.D., Professor of Communication and Walter H. Annenberg Dean, is being recommended for a second term as Dean of the Annenberg School for Communication. Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Vincent Price said in today’s Penn Almanac the review committee concluded that Dean Delli Carpini’s first term (which began in 2003) was “characterized by marked success across major dimensions: faculty recruitment and retention, student quality and satisfaction, financial and administrative management, grant-funded research, and engagement with the broader community.” The second term recommendation will be voted on by the University Trustees at the February meeting. Professor Jackson speaking at Capitol Hill panel on race John L. Jackson, Jr., Ph.D., the Richard Perry University Professor of Communication and Anthropology, is one of several speakers at a day-long panel discussion today in Washington, D.C. titled “A New National Dialogue on Race.” This is day one of a two-day event that will take place on Capitol Hill (Cannon House Office Building, Cannon Caucus Room) and is sponsored by the American Anthropological Association. Prof. Jackson will participate in the panel “The State of Race in 2010: Defining a New Dialogue,” along with representatives from organizations including the NAACP, the Islamic Society of North America, and the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art.
