Professor Jamieson on Obama's first year in office

Kathleen Hall Jamieson, Ph.D., the Elizabeth Ware Packard Professor of Communication and Director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, was a guest on the January 20 edition of the NPR program The Takeaway where she talked about President Barack Obama’s first year on the job.

Professor Kraidy talks reality TV

Marwan M. Kraidy, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Communication, talked about reality television in the Middle East in a January 25 story in the web site Muslim Voices.

New CGCS Scholars

Annenberg's Center for Global Communication Studies is pleased to welcome four visiting scholars to Annenberg for the Spring 2010 semester.

Rob McMahon is a doctoral candidate in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University. His research interests include journalism studies and normative media theory. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Victoria (History and Writing), and a Masters of Journalism from the University of British Columbia. His professional experience includes working as a Communications and Consultation Officer with the Federal Treaty Negotiation Branch at Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and as a freelance journalist for a variety of publications.

Qin Wang is a doctoral candidate at the School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University in Beijing. Qin's research interests include media law and China's new media. Qin has accumulated nine years working experience with several major media outlets in China, including Southern Metropolis Daily, Beijing News and Caijing Magazine. She received her master's in Chinese literature from Nanjing University and in law from Peking University.

In February, we will be joined by Sahana Udupa, a doctoral candidate at the School of Social Sciences, National Institute of Advanced Studies, India, and Carlo Nardella, a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the University of Milan. More information is available at the CGCS web site.

Student Susanna Dilliplane receives "top paper" recognition from ICA

A paper by Annenberg doctoral student Susanna Dilliplane's, "All the News You Want to Hear: The Impact of Partisan News Consumption on Political Participation," has received top paper recognition from the political communication division of the International Communication Association (ICA). Ms. Dilliplane will present her work during the ICA conference in Singapore this June.

Professor Hampton to present at Muhlenberg's Center for Ethics  

Keith Hampton, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Communication at Annenberg, will discuss “The Power of Space and Place: New Technologies and the Public Sphere” on March 16 at 7 p.m. at The Center for Ethics event at Muhlenberg College (Allentown, PA).  The talk is part of a year-long program series sponsored by the Center for Ethics at Muhlenberg College.
