Upcoming events - Prof. Pearl, Prof. Gandy, Prof. Glanz

Sharrona Pearl, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Communication, will deliver the lecture "Blockbuster Freaks: Victorian Freaks and the Hollywood Happy Ending" today at noon in Fisher-Bennett Hall.

Oscar H. Gandy, Jr., Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Communication, will deliver a noon-time colloquium on Friday, Oct. 29 titled "Coming to terms with chance: Exploring policy options and alternatives."

Karen Glanz, Ph.D., the George A. Weiss University Professor in the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, will discuss a skin cancer prevention program during a November 3 (Noon in Room 500) lecture sponsored by the Annenberg School for Communication's Center of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research.

Pennsylvania Honors Prof. Jamieson

Kathleen Hall Jamieson, Ph.D., the Elizabeth Ware Packard Professor of Communication and Director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, has been named a "Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania" by the Pennsylvania Commission for Women. She and Penn President Amy Gutmann were among the eight recipients of the honor.

Faculty in the news

The media continues to turn to Annenberg faculty for insights on the mid-term elections. Michael X. Delli Carpini, Ph.D., Professor of Communication and Walter H. Annenberg Dean, was a guest on the WHYY (NPR affiliate) program "Radio Times with Marty Moss-Coane" on Tuesday, Oct. 27, discussing the media's role in the elections.

Prof. Jamieson was interviewed for a story in The Philadelphia Inquirer on political attack advertisements, for a story in The Washington Times on President Obama's message, for a story in Politico.com on President Obama's efforts to win over female voters, and for a story in TheHill.com about voters opinions on President Obama's job performance.

Additional Faculty member Al Felzenberg was interviewed for a story in The Daily Pennsylvanian about the value of political endorsements.

And in a non-political news story, Joseph Turow, Ph.D., the Robert Lewis Shayon Professor of Communication, was interviewed by Marketplace Radio for a story about the re-launch of the social media site MySpace.

New book by David and Julie Eisenhower

David Eisenhower, director of the Institute for Public Service at Annenberg, and his wife Julie Eisenhower were interviewed on the CBS Sunday Morning News about their new book on President Dwight Eisenhower.
