Annenberg Faculty News Prof. Barbie Zelizer’s book About to Die: How News Images Move the Public honored by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Additionally, Prof. Zelizer was interviewed by the BBC regarding the haunting and disturbing images of famine in Somalia that appeared recently in The New York Times. Prof. Diana Mutz published her new book, Population-Based Survey Experiments. Prof. Mutz was interviewed by The New York Times for a story about political compromise (or the lack thereor). Prof. Joseph Turow to speak at Russian news event in Moscow next month. Prof. Klaus Krippendorff discusses human-centered design with Columbian newspaper. Prof. Kathleen Hall Jamieson moderates panel comprising U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Additionally, Prof. Jamieson examines President Obama’s speech after Standard and Poors downgraded the United States credit rating. An analysis of the U.S. top 30 movies from 1950 through 2006 found that movies rated “R” had five times more explicit suicide behavior portrayals than those rated “G,” and were indistinguishable with those rated “PG-13.” FactCheck was cited in an August 7 article in Jacksonville.com about the truth behind an email exposing White House staff raises. According to FactCheck, the email – which originated from the Gawker blog entitled “White Staffers Got a Raise Last Year, And You Did Not” – did not include the changes in job titles that would signify promotions.
