Prof. Kraidy talks about the situation in Egypt

Current events again have put a spotlight on Annenberg faculty.  Marwan M. Kraidy, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Communication, was a panelist at a discussion February 4 in Stiteler Hall on the Egyptian protests.  Prof. Kraidy also talked about the economic impact of the protests during an interview with Marketplace Radio, and in a separate interview with the BBC. 

Prof. Kraidy also recently wrote about media reform in Lebanon for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Prof. Zelizer’s book discussed and reviewed

Barbie Zelizer, Ph.D., the Raymond Williams Professor of Communication, talked about her book About To Die: How News Images Move the Public, on New Hampshire Public Radio.  Watch the ASC web page for a link to another interview about the book with Southern California Public Radio.  You can read a new review of the book in Obit magazine.

Elihu Katz to lecture at Penn Hillel

Elihu Katz, Ph.D., Distinguished Trustee Professor of Communication, will deliver a lecture for the Jewish Studies Bassini Internship Program on Tuesday, February 22 at 6:45 p.m. in the Dr. Lynne B. Harrison Library, Penn Hillel.  Prof. Katz will discuss the book of Esther through the lens of communication studies. He will address his theory that the book of Esther may have been disseminated through the medium of “puppeteering.” Who is the puppet and who the puppeteer? 

Prof. Turow and the business of grocery stores

Joseph Turow, Ph.D., the Robert Lewis Shayon Professor of Communication, was interviewed for a CNBC special report on the business of grocery store marketing. The program, “Supermarkets, Inc.: Inside a $500 Billion Money Machine,” is airing on CNBC during the month of February.

David Eisenhower writes about Presidential rhetoric

David Eisenhower, Director of the Institute for Public Service, writes about presidential speeches in a recent op-ed in The Los Angeles Times.

Michael Hennessy named to editorial post

Michael Hennessy, Ph.D., Research Analysis Manager at the Annenberg Public Policy Center, has accepted an invitation to serve on the editorial board of Human Communication Research, one of the official journals of the International Communication Association.

Al Felzenberg writes about presidents, past and (potentially) future

Annenberg additional faculty member Al Felzenberg discusses John Huntsman’s presidential chances in U.S. News and World Report.  He also wrote an appreciation of President Ronald Reagan in The National Review online.

Play “Thurgood” to premiere on HBO

Sponsored by the Lenore Annenberg Institute for Civics at the Annenberg Public Policy Center, the film “Thurgood” starring Laurence Fishburne as the former U.S. Supreme Court Justice, will premiere February 24 on HBO.
