Prof. Marwan M. Kraidy named Penn Fellow

Prof. Kraidy is one of six University of Pennsylvania faculty members to receive this honor.

New visiting scholars

The Annenberg Scholars Program in Culture and Communication welcomes John Ellis and Aphra Kerr as the scholars-in-residence for the Spring 2011 term.

Faculty in the news 

Several news outlets turned to Annenberg experts – Kathleen Hall Jamieson, Diana Mutz, Barbie Zelizer, Al Felzenberg, and Brooks Jackson – for perspectives and opinions throughout the evolving coverage of the tragic incident in Tucson Arizona where 20 individuals were shot, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.  A roundup of coverage can be seen here.

Barbie Zelizer, Ph.D., the Raymond Williams Professor of Communication, wrote in The Huffington Post media coverage in crisis situations as it pertains to the coverage received recently by the Broadway play “Spider-Man: Turn off the dark.”

Prof. Zelizer also was interviewed by Slate.com for a story on her new book, About to Die: How News Images Move the Public.

Teaching Faculty member Al Felzenberg, Ph.D. writes for The National Review Online about the task ahead for President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner.  Dr. Felzenberg also wrote a similar piece for U.S. News and World Report.

January 18 at the East-West Center (Honolulu, Hawaii), Prof. Kathleen Hall Jamieson will deliver the talk “Finding the Hidden Meanings in Presidential Messages” as part of the Center’s George Chaplin Fellowship in Distinguished Journalism program.

January 19 at noon - Introductory colloquium for Scholars Program in Culture and Communication – Room 500.

January 25 at 6 p.m. – Book talk by Prof. Barbie Zelizer – Penn Bookstore, second floor.

January 26 at 5:30 p.m. - The 10th Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture in Social Justice featuring Mr. Time Wise, anti-racist activist, writer, educator and lecturer (co sponsored with Penn's Center for Africana Studies - The Annenberg Center for Performing Arts, Zellerbach Theater.

February 17 at noon – Fontaine Society colloquium; speaker Nicole Fleetwood – Room 500.
