Alumni news – “Did you download that article?”  You weren’t alone.

Annenberg alumni Dan Berger, Ph.D. (Gr ’10) and Adrienne Shaw, Ph.D. (Gr ’10) published markedly different journal articles in 2009 and 2010 – one dealt with routines of criminalization, the other with video games – yet the two works have one thing in common.  Both were the most downloaded article from their respective journal for 2009 – 2010.

Dr. Berger’s article, “Constructing crime, framing disaster: Routines of criminalization and crisis in Hurricane Katrina,” first published in Punishment & Society in 2009, and Dr. Shaw’s work, “What Is Video Game Culture? Cultural Studies and Game Studies” published in Games and Culture in 2010 both were the most downloaded articles from their respective journals.

To enable Dr. Berger and Dr. Shaw to share this achievement with friends and colleagues, SAGE Publications has made the articles free to access in perpetuity.  Dr. Berger’s article can be found here, and Dr. Shaw’s article is available via this link.
