Faculty news/in the news

Annenberg faculty and alumni continue to be a point of reference for panels and news organizations as popular unrest continues throughout the Middle East.  On Monday, Feb. 28, Prof. Marwan Kraidy, Karin Gwinn Wilkins (Gr ’91), and former Visiting Scholar Melani McAlister comprised a panel discussing Mideast protests in Stiteler Hall.  Prof. Kraidy also was interviewed recently by the Spanish newspaper EL PAIS on the relationship between al-Jazeera and Qatar. He has also done interviews with the BBC about al-Jazeera’s impact, and he recently briefed University Pennsylvania Trustees on this developing story.

Prof. Barbie Zelizer published in the Journal of Communication.

Prof. Sharrona Pearl will give a talk at New York University on Tuesday, March 8, titled Blockbuster Freaks: The Elephant Man, The Hottentot Venus and the Hollywood EndingDetails here.

Amy Jordan edits edition of the Journal of Children and Media.  Amy Jordan, Ph.D., Director of the Media and the Developing child sector of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, is the author of “Children’s Media Policy: International Perspectives,” in the Journal of Children and Media (Vol. 5, Number 1, 2011).

Michael Serazio, Ph.D. (Gr '10) awarded one of the International Communication Association Popular Communication Division's faculty "Top Paper" awards for his work "The Conquest of Contemporary Cool: Culture Jamming, Guerrilla Marketing, and Consumer Governance."

Angela Lee to present at the 12th International Symposium on Online Journalism, April 1 - 2.

March 21 at 6 p.m. - Walter and Leonore Annenberg Distinguished Lecture in Communication, presented by Ernest J. Wilson, III, Ph.D., Dean of the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California.

March 30 - 5:30 p.m. - 10th Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture in Social Justice (rescheduled from January) - Irvine Auditorium.
