Annenberg Presentations at the Midwest Political Science Association Congratulations to the following Annenberg students and faculty who presented research at the Midwest Political Science Association conference in Chicago (April 11 – 14).
Congratulations to Barbie Zelizer, Ph.D., the Raymond Williams Professor of Communication, who currently is serving as a visiting scholar at the Free University of Brussels. Prof. Zelizer also recently spoke to The Philadelphia Inquirer about the varied images that arose from the April 15 bombing of the Boston Marathon. Kathleen Hall Jamieson, Ph.D., the Elizabeth Ware Packard Professor of Communication, recently wrote an essay on civics education for the journal Dadealus. Victor Pickard, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Communication discussed the future of news with “The Scholars Circle” radio program on KPFK radio. The program aired earlier this week. Stouffer Professor of Communication, who will receive an honorary doctoral degree this fall from the University of Southern Denmark. Klaus Krippendorff, Ph.D., the Gregory Bateson Professor of Communication, contributes chapter to new scholarly book.
Researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine, the Annenberg School for Communication, and the Annenberg Public Policy Center determined that strong arguments rather than flashy editing, sound, and video effects are the most important factor in developing a strong anti-smoking Public Service Announcement. In addition to coverage in WHYY’s NewsWorks, the story was covered in Science Daily, and Medical Daily. George Gerbner post-doctoral fellows Susanna Dilliplane, Ph.D. (Gr ’12), Seth Goldman, Ph.D. (Gr ’10), and Diana C. Mutz, Ph.D., the Samuel A. Stouffer Professor of Communication and Political science, have developed a new measure for understanding how well people gain political knowledge from watching television news. Their findings are discussed in the January issue of the American Journal of Political Science. Christopher Ali pens book review in Inmedia.org.
