Congratulations to Prof. Joseph Turow, who received the John P. McGovern Centennial Award in Health Communication from the University of Texas, Austin, for his book “Playing Doctor: Television, Storytelling, and Medical Power” (Univ. of Michigan Press, 2010). While in Texas, Prof. Turow delivered a talked titled “Prime Time Doctors: Why Should You Care?” Prof. Kathleen Hall Jamieson talks to the Associated Press about President Obama’s diminishing availability to the news media. Prof. Turow explains to columnist Michael Smerconish why it seems like he is being followed online (Hint: it’s because he is.) FactCheck.org’s research was cited in a Philly.com column about the ongoing debates in Washington over the future of Social Security. FactCheck also was cited in a CBS New York story about New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s campaign for a healthier New York. New “3620” podcast – “The Past is Present.” Grad student Deb Lui asks “Why do we come to the field of communication? And who were we before?” Congratulations to doctoral candidate Susan Mello who is one of the recipients of the President’s and Provost’s Citation for Exceptional Commitment to Graduate and Professional Student Life. Doctoral student Sun-Ha Hong presented the lecture “Living With Commodities: Emergence and Materiality in subject-object relations” at the New School in New York last Sunday, April 6. He will present the same talk April 20 at the IKKM at Bauhaus-Universitat Weimar, Weimar, Germany. April 5 – Colloquium by Alice Eagly, Ph.D. Noon in Room 500. April 10 – CGCS seminar – Rumor as Political Communication in Modern Iran. Noon in Room 300.
