CGCS publishes first-ever survey of Iranian journalists
The report, Facing Boundaries, Finding Freedom: An In-Depth Report on Iranian Journalists Working in Iran, is based on a field survey of 304 Iranian journalists from both state-run and independent media outlets. The survey, conducted by the Center for Global Communication Studies’ Iran Media Program, offers the first systematic evidence of the working environment for Iranian journalists, including the level of editorial freedom they are able to exercise, their sources for newsgathering and reporting, and if and how they contend with Internet filtering and online censorship.

Prof. Kathleen Hall Jamieson was interviewed by The Los Angeles Times about President Obama’s remarks on the economy. She also spoke to USA Today about a new public service announcement campaign aimed at boosting awareness of mental health issues among teenagers.
Prof. Joseph Turow recently spoke at a meeting in New York City cosponsored by US PIRG Education Fund, and the Ford Foundation about Big Data and Financial Opportunity. His talk was “How companies define individuals’ worth in the digital age.”
Prof. Turow also was interviewed recently by Marketplace radio for a story about the evolving face of the advertising business.
APPC study on how parental TV habits influence kids’ TV habits continues to generate coverage, including a video report from CNN and a podcast on RadioMD.com.

Doctoral candidate Brett Bumgarner was interviewed by The Philadelphia Inquirer for a story about the gay bar scene in the Philadelphia suburbs.
