Annenberg students and faculty are again very active the International Communication Association annual conference. A schedule of presentations and other activities at this year’s conference in London can be seen here. Additionally, alumna Keren Tenenboim-Weinblatt, Ph.D. (Gr ’11) is the inaugural recipient of the ICA Political Communication Division’s Outstanding Dissertation Award. CECCR Research Director Sungkyoung Lee, Ph.D., and Prof. Joseph Cappella publish findings on effectiveness of anti-smoking PSA’s in Media Psychology. A study by the Annenberg Center for Global Communication Studies on the use of social media by Iranian youths was covered in Wired UK edition. Annenberg’s May 31 conference on the use of big data in politics – “Data-Crunched Democracy: Where Do We Go From Here” – was covered by several media outlets, including The Philadelphia Inquirer. Prof. Kathleen Hall Jamieson discusses the National Security Agency leaks and the impact on a free press. Prof. Jamieson also spoke to The New York Times about speeches by President John F. Kennedy and their impact and place in history. Prof. Joseph Turow talked to National Public Radio about online privacy and how people’s attitudes about it change over time. He also spoke to Marketplace Radio about the placement of distasteful advertisements on Facebook pages. Nora Draper wins top paper award from the Canadian Communication Association. Sandra Ristovska receives Schiller Award from IAMCR. Note: Annenberg In Touch will be on a bi-weekly schedule for the Summer.
