The Annenberg School for Communication this week recognized the accomplishments of its graduate and undergraduate students. Congratulations to everyone. Prof. Katz profiled Elihu Katz, Ph.D., Distinguished Trustee Professor of Communication, talks about how he got into academia in a profile piece in Figure/Ground Communication, a student-led interdisciplinary research website. Prof. Turow speaking engagements at Goldsmith College, Penn Medicine Joseph Turow, Ph.D., the Robert Lewis Shayon Professor of Communication, delivered the lecture “The Revolution in Ad Sponsorship and its Impact on Media Culture” at Goldsmith College, University of London, earlier this month (May 2). On May 10 he discussed his book “Playing Doctor: Television, Storytelling and Medical Power” during an alumni weekend event at Penn Medicine. Prof. Jackson’s documentary goes on tour in Africa Bad Friday, the documentary by Profs. John L. Jackson, Jr. and Deborah Thomas, is having screenings in Africa, thanks to funding from Penn’s Global Engagement fund. Prof. Moehler to present work at the University of Michigan Devra C. Moehler, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Communication, will present “Moderation from the African Airwaves: A field Experiment on the Effects of Partisan Radio” (co-authored with Jeffrey Conroy-Krutz) at the Center for Political Studies Speaker Series, University of Michigan, on Wednesday, May 15. Prof. Pearl to deliver talk at Penn Medicine Sharrona Pearl, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Communication, will deliver the talk “Facial Allograft Transplants: Decoding the Debates” today at 5:30 p.m. at the Center for Human Appearance, 10 Penn Tower Conference Room, Penn Medicine. Prof. Pearl also published a piece, “Believing in not Seeing: Teaching Atrocity Without Images” in After Image: the Journal of Media Arts and Cultural Criticism. Prof. Decherney fights for scholarly access Peter Decherney, a secondary faculty member at Annenberg, and Penn English Prof. Tsitsi Jaji argue for copyright access for e-reserves. Kathleen Hall Jamieson, Ph.D., the Elizabeth Ware Packard Professor of Communication and Director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, talks to UPI about the “attack on facts” in political campaigns. She also was recently interviewed by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review about local politicians and run-ins with contractors. Piotr M. Szpunar receives graduate fellowship. New “3620” podcast – “Rays of Imagination.”
